Victor Wanayama’s message of hope that gave Stars victory over Ethiopia

Harambee Stars captain Victor Wanyama is an international star that many aspiring football players looks up to.

As a midfielder in the English topflight Tottenham, Wanyama has given many a ray of hope, including his home team Harambee Stars.

And today (Wednesday) was the day that many looked at him as the stars hope to earn a ticket to the 2019 African Cup of Nations (Afcon) group qualifications.

On his twitter handle, Wanyama sent a conventional message to his team mates that spearheaded their victory a top of group F.

“Let’s do this #HarambeeStars ????????#afconq2019…” read the twit.

The stars held Walias to a scoreless draw at the Bahir Dar stadium Ethiopia as the two sides recorded their 43rd clash.

Their last clash was in 2015, when Kenya suffered a humiliation of 2-0 goals.

Kenya hosts Ethiopia in the second leg on Sunday at Kasarani stadium, a match that the stars needs to outshine to secure a ticket to the finals which will be held at Cameroon.

This will only prove for Kenya, if Fifa fails to lift Sierra Leone’s suspension any time soon.

The Kenyan line up was led by Patrick Matasi (GK), Philemon Otieno, Musa Mohammed, Brian Mandela, Abud Omar (Erick Ouma 54’), Victor Wanyama (CPT), Dennis Odhiambo, Eric Johanna (Ismael Gonzalez 46’), Ovella Ochieng’, Francis Kahata (Paul Were 75’), and Michael Olunga.

On the Ethiopian side were, Samson Asefa (GK), Abdulkerim Adem, Ahmed Reshad, Anteneh Tesfaye, Aschalew Tamene, Beneyam Demte (Omod Okwury 65’), Dukele Hotessa (Abel Tilahun 86’), Kadebe Gibeto, Mesfen Bolado (Kenean Maleko 81’), Bekele Godo, and Gatoch Panom.
