Dr. Wilber Otichilo and his Deputy Governor Dr. Patrick Saisi on Monday took an oath of office during the inauguration ceremony conducted at Kidundu stadium in Vihiga county.
The swearing in process was led by the High Court Judge Hellen Omondi and vihiga Principal Magistrate Jacinta Orwa making him the second Governor of Vihiga County after he beat the outgoing Governor Rev Moses Akaranga in the just concluded General election. "The period for voting has passed. Our people need to heal and reconcile. Any rift that may have rose from previous political regimes should be put aside by people coming together and forging ahead. We will work for the people of Vihiga County, " said Otichilo. The NASA co principal and ANC party leader Hon Musalia Mudavadi led other dignitaries in congratulating the new Governor. "Being a Governor is not a walk in the park. It requires commitment, dedication, skills, honesty and proffesion and above all guidance from Almighty God." said Mudavadi. The outgoing Governor Akaranga, applauded his successor for emerging victorious. " I want to congratulate my brother Dr. Otichillo for his win as per the will of the people of Vihiga county, it wasn't a war but it was a friendly match that was won fairly." In attendance was Senotor elect, George Khaniri who promised to work with the Governor and urged the MCAs to support Governor as they have an Oversight role to the Governor. Also in attendance were all the twenty-five MCAs, all the MPs from the 5 constituencies among other county executives.
