Renowned actor Idris Elba has partnered with Nigerian media mogul Mo Abudu to push representation and diverse storytelling in the global film and TV industry.
According to CNN, the two are set to work through their respective production companies Green Door Pictures and EbonyLife Media to develop emerging talent from Africa.
Elba has won popular awards including the Golden Globe and has acted in films like Suicide Squad, Luther, and Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom. He intends to work with African filmmakers to ensure the continent’s talent gets the attention it deserves.
On the other hand, through her company EbonyLife Media, Abudu has produced original TV shows. She signed a multi-title deal in 2020 with Netflix to create two original series and various films. EbonyLife has also partnered with film and TV companies like Sony Pictures Television, Lionsgate, and BBC.
Abudu launched EbonyLife Creative Academy in 2021 in Lagos, which offers free film and TV education, mentorship, and production training for 480 students every year. Elba and Abudu’s long-term goal is to roll out other 10-15 academies over the next five years across Africa.
