All athletics training camps in Nandi County have to be closed with immediate effect, says Nandi County Governor Stephen Sang.

This comes even as President Uhuru Kenyatta on Sunday directed closure of all learning institutions, urging citizens to limit social gathering over the spread of the novel coronavirus in the country.

The first case of the viral flu, also known as COVID-19, was reported in the country on Friday, with a 27-year-old lady alleged to have travelled to the country from the United States, tested positive.

On Sunday, the government reported that the number of Coronavirus cases have grown to 3, after health officials testing two other individuals believed to have come in conduct with first patient, during their trip to Kenya.

Governor Sang said that his administration is working hand in hand with the national government and the ministry of health, to see that COVID-19 is contained at the grass-root level.

Part of the directives that the governor gave in his address to residents of Nandi County are;

All athletics training camps in Nandi county to close with immediate effect.

Foreign athletes banned from training in the county.

More bus stops and pick up points to be set up to avoid congestion.

No hawking of food and fruits outside designated market areas.

Members of the public visits to the county government offices suspended for the next 30 days –advised to use the county toll-free number 1548 to access services.

Schools directed to liaise with Matatu operators to pick students from school gates to avoid crowding.

Governor Sang said that these among other rules encompassed in the Presidents’ directive, will see the county contain the virus.

“I wish to state that this pandemic will be stopped at the community level. I therefore urge all of you to observe the preventive measures communicated by the ministry of health,” said Governor Sang.
